How to Make Black Eyed Peas

Serves 4-6


  • 500g fresh black-eyed peas
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 2 peppers, chopped
  • 200mL hot water
  • 2 tomatoes, grated
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar


  1. Wash the beans and cut into 3 pieces.
  2. Heat oil in a large pan. Add onion and peppers and fry 2-3 minutes. Add garlic and continue cooking until onion is soft.
  3. Add the beans and grated tomatoes.
  4. Add salt and sugar. Cover with the hot water. Cook over low heat until beans are soft.
